From the Frontlines of Climate Change to Our Classrooms

Dear Rethinking Schools friends,

Please join us on Friday, October 14th, 4 to 6 pm, in the library at Madison High School (2735 NE 82nd in Portland) for an event with the extraordinary poet and activist from the Marshall Islands, Kathy Jetnil-Kijiner: "From the Frontlines of Climate Change to Our Classrooms."

Kathy Jetnil-Kijiner will share her poetry and knowledge about the impact of climate change on Pacific Islanders. Her poetry is accessible and student-friendly.

Jetnil-Kijiner has performed at the United Nations General Assembly, and the Paris climate talks.

This is a rare and wonderful treat. Check out a couple of her poems. "Dear Matafele Peinem": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJuRjy9k7GA

This is the first event sponsored by the PPS Climate Justice Committee. Co-sponsored by 350PDX, APANO (the Asian Pacific American Network of Oregon), the Climate Action Coalition, the Oregon Writing Project, Portland Association of Teachers, Rethinking Schools, and the Sierra Club Columbia Network.

Please spread the word.

Best, Bill Bigelow
