NWTSJ Conference this Saturday at Madison High School!

in

Dear Portland Area Rethinking Schools friends,

Have you registered for this Saturday's conference? Our 7th Annual Northwest Teaching for Social Justice Conference is just days away. It's shaping up to be our best ever, with three sessions of almost 60 outstanding workshops. We'll open with a keynote address from the renowned antiracist educator Enid Lee, co-editor of Beyond Heroes and Holidays; and feature an afternoon talk by Rethinking Schools editor Stan Karp -- "Surviving School Reform: When the Reformers Come to Town." Dozens of community groups will display their wares in a day-long Resource Fair.

Sign up for this inspiring and informative gathering. www.nwtsj.org. This is the conference where educators of conscience remind ourselves why we do this work.

Where: Madison High School, Portland
When: Saturday, Oct. 18. -- 8 am to 4:30 pm
Cost: $30; $5 for students (includes lunch, coffee, snacks throughout the day)
Register: www.nwtsj.org

Are you coming from out of town and need housing? Are you in the Portland area and can offer housing to out of town visitors to the conference? Contact Laura Czarniecki: lauraczarniecki@gmail.com

We are past our "lunch deadline," so cannot guarantee lunches for people who register this week, but we still want you to join us!

Please help us reduce waste by bringing your own water container.

And please stop by the Rethinking Schools tables and say hello.

Warmly,

Bill Bigelow
for the Northwest Teaching for Social Justice Conference organizing committee

P.S. Conference sponsors are Puget Sound Rethinking Schools, Portland Area Rethinking Schools, the Oregon Writing Project at Lewis & Clark College, Social Equality Educators (Portland and Seattle), and Rethinking Schools magazine.
