OWP: Immigration Curriculum Development—All Grade Levels and Subject Areas Welcome Dec 13th



We are on the precipice of uncertain times and it would be easy to isolate ourselves and just get through it. A way to find hope and nourish our teaching selves is to find solace in our professional community, support each other, and channel our energies into our practice. We need to join together as teachers in solidarity and create timely, relevant, and engaging instruction for our students.

A few years ago, social studies teachers met regularly to collaborate and develop social justice based curriculum. We would like to get this going once again, and we hope you will join us in this endeavor. We know that teachers from every grade level and subject area have an interest in pursuing curriculum or ideas on the topic of immigration.

Please join us for a monthly standing meeting. Our first session is December 13th from
4-6 p.m. at the PAT .

We chose IMMIGRATION as the first curricular topic. We would like to problematize the stories that leave us at Ellis Island or the Mexican border. What is the fuller story of immigration that needs to be told?

At our first meeting, we will share a lesson, but we also want YOU to bring your curriculum. We would like to develop lessons that continue to disrupt the single story of immigration. We hope to utilize and support each other’s expertise, build community and develop quality, engaging curriculum for our school communities.
