Troublemakers School/Jesse Hagopian speaks

in

Dear Portland Area Rethinking Schools friends,

This MAY 30th, unions and community activists are coming together at the Troublemakers School! A time to learn and organize across struggles and labor groups. This year Jesse Hagopian, editor from Rethinking Schools, will be speaking as the lunchtime keynote and also on an education panel. The panel will address the current opt out movement and the criticism of it being a white suburban mom movement. Students of color are more than a test score, yet there is still an opportunity gap in our schools. How does race play a role in standardized tests and current education reforms? How are students of color represented or not represented in the classroom curriculum?

Addressing these questions will be:

Jesse Hagopian, Seattle Teacher from Garfield High School, Rethinking Schools editorial board
Sekai Edwards, Jefferson High School student and leader of the Black Student Union
Adrienne Cabouet, leader in the Black Lives Matter Portland movement

Cost is only $10, which covers lunch. Hope to see some fellow educators there!

Saturday, May 30
9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
